Qingdao Harbor CBD Urban Design
HISTORICAL CONNECTIONS
Located on multiple parcels & piers in close proximity to Qingdao's Cruise Terminal, this multi-phased development will create a new CBD for this historical city influenced in the early 20th century by German immigrants. The planning prioritized connectivity to the historical German town, accessibility and sustainable strategies as the primary drivers to planning and design. The concept includes an undulating pedestrian park connecting a Retail Center and surrounding historical buildings to the waterfront, preserving an industrial silo complex by converting it into a cultural facility and strategically planning high density residential towers and innovative workplace facilities within a redefined street grid. The centerpiece of the development would be a 400m+ iconic tower that alludes to the site’s nautical and sea-faring references. An elevated transit system and monorail provides further linkages to all blocks and the cruise terminal.
